Butcher Island Tourism

Butcher Island or the Jawahar Dweep is an island off the coast of Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Butcher Island has an oil terminal used by the port authorities to offload it from oil tankers. The crude oil is stored in oil containers on Butcher Island. From there they are piped to Wadala, in Mumbai where they are refined through various processes. This keeps the city of Mumbai relatively safe from a mishap.

Butcher Island is a restricted area and most of the island is covered with thick vegetation. A hillock rises from the center of the Butcher Island. It is located 8.25 kilometers from the Gateway of India.
