Mahabubnagar town is located at a distance of 96 km from Hyderabad city. Formerly called Rukmammapeta and Palamooru, it derived the name of Mahabubnagar in 1890, in the honor of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, one of the rulers of the Nizam dynasty of Hyderabad.

There is also a tomb of a Muslim Saint which is located nearby. Agasthyesvara Swamy temple and Madana Gopala Swamy temple are two popular temples which are located near Kollapur, at a distance of about 158 km from Mahabubnagar. Pillalamarri
This is one place that must be on your list. Pillalamari is an 800 years old Banyan tree and its branches spread across 3 acres which can accommodate about 1000 people in its shade. You have to see it to believe it. Under the tree rests the tomb of a Muslim saint. The best time to visit Pillalamari is the rainy season when the boating facility in its premises is open. It could be a full day trip with the small zoo, an aquarium and the museum around.

Tradition has it that there are four gateways to the pilgrimage of Srisailam. To the North lies Umamaheshwar, to the South lies Siddhavattam, to the East lays Tripurantakam and to the West lays Alampur. The ancient Nava Brahma temples are located here which date back to the 7th century A.D. The Chalukyan architectural style of the temples portrays beautiful sculptures of Gods and Goddesses.
