Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary (16 km from Kottayam town, on the banks of the Vembanad Lake) Main attractions: Local birds like the water fowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, herons and the water duck, as well as the migratory Siberian duck.

Idukki Wildlife

Periyar Tiger Reserve One of the world's most fascinating natural wildlife sanctuaries, Thekaddy is noted for its geomorphology, wildlife and beautiful landscape.

Ernakulam Wildlife

The sanctuary was designed by Dr.Salim Ali, the renowned omithologist. He is reported to have identified 167 birds and his student, Dr. Sugathan, 207, In addition, the Bombay Natural History Society has identified 253 species here.

Thrissur Wildlife

Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary (35 km from Thrissur): Main attractions: Fauna: Leopards, elephants, bears, wild pips, wild bisons, tigers etc. Flora: Evergreen forests. Semi evergreen forests. Leaf shedding forests.

Palakkad Wildlife

Silent Valley National Park (40 km from Mannarghat): Main attractions: Elephants, tigers, wild boars, flying squirrels, lion tailed macaques and king cobras.

Wayanad Wildlife

Main attractions: Fauna: Mammals: Elephants, tigers, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs, bisons, deer, bears etc. Reptiles: Monitor lizards and a variety of snakes are seen. Birds: Peacocks, babblers, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, jungle fowls are a few of the various types of birds seen here.
